Distributioncenter Maasvlakte West
Commissioned by Busan Port Authority (BPA), Hercuton realized a new distribution center of about 30.000 m². The warehouse stands on a parcel of almost 50.000 m² on the Distribution Park Maasvlakte West in the port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest seaport. The warehouse is intended for logistics services to small and medium-sized companies doing business between Europe and South Korea.
Hercuton built the DC on a turnkey basis from design, engineering and submission of the environmental permit to construction. Hercuton initially won the tender for Phase I – design and engineering and subsequently emerged as the winner of Phase II – realization.
BREEAM Outstanding
BPA went with the sustainability ambition BREEAM Outstanding for a very sustainable building. The distribution center is gasless and energy-neutral and heat pumps have been chosen for the heating. The building is equipped with energy-efficient lighting and there are also water-saving facilities and ecological measures to stimulate biodiversity. Charging points for electric cars have been installed on the outdoor grounds.
External quality assurance
The building was realized under external quality assurance, which Hercuton has had experience with since 2016. Seconed was brought in for this. In addition, Stijn de Wolf is involved in the project as an external project manager.
Design and planning
The building measures a total of approximately 30.000 m², including 2.500 m² of mezzanine and 1,500 m² of office. The choice was made for a concrete plinth in smooth concrete with light gray steel sandwich panels for the hall, which give the building the appearance of an industrial mass that fits the port area of Rotterdam. On 6 April 2021 Hercuton started with the groundwork, the delivery took place in December 2021.
